A Plc that claims to care, but quite simply does not. - Marketing RM Employee Review

Pros

Some of the people that are still left in the business are genuinely lovely. But you could meet them in a pub so, you know. You can literally waste weeks simply waiting for clarity on what you're supposed to be doing. You can use that time to read, play with your cat or shop online. Work-life balance can actually be pretty good - although not for teams in India.

Cons

They pretend to care. Some of them might care about colleagues, but the business is all about rinsing the public sector for every penny it can get from it - in order to feed their share holders. A once great business is thrashing around for breath in it's twilight years. We should allow it to slip gently beneath the waves of its own self-destruction, and mourn the memory of what could have been a great, purpose led business. Although RM once had a reputation for making yearly redundancies this has slowed in recent years, and now they simply ignore employees until they grow so tired of waiting for any sign of green shoots they simply quit in a moment of self-critical imposter syndrome to take a role as a road sweeper. Which, in fairness, is likely to be a more rewarding experience. Bullying and nepotism are ever present. As the business is 50 years old, it feels almost appropriate for it to be a little bigoted.

Hi - and thanks for your honest review. I'm sorry to read that you feel the care we have across the business is dishonest and ingenuine. There are multiple projects underway at the moment all directly aimed at improving the employee experience - both from a personal and ways of working/process point of view. The business has been through a state of significant change over recent years and we're appreciative that this has often led to some confusion around direction and/or priorities. There is ongoing activity to tackle this and improve the flow of communication and more importantly, information on our business direction going forward. Over recent months, we've increased the amount of communication we have from our Executive team so that teams feel more informed about where we're heading as a business and what their part in that is. That's not to say we have it running as effectively as we'd like but it's definitely a step in the right direction. I'm unaware as to when you left the business as your review states you are a former employee however if you left us recently, then you may have heard Mark talk about us being on a transformation journey to strengthen the business and set us up for success now and in the future. It's an exciting time to be a part of the team as we hope to continue improving what we do for the betterment of education for both students and educators but this does mean some shifts from our previous focuses. You have given us some useful feedback in your review so I will feed this back to the team. Thank you, Stefan

Pros

RM has a clean, nicely designed and well-lit office in the Milton Park complex. It is situated in beautiful Sutton Courtenay. There are some beautiful houses there. They lay on food quite regularly. It is mostly a friendly atmosphere.

Cons

Everyone was selling their houses in Sutton Courtenay because of the expansion of Didcot into their beautiful village. There was an awful sense of a cloud advancing over the land.
