Pros
Good exposure to the mental health field. Depending on the day, it can be a laid back position. Fun activities with the clients here and there. You can pick up shifts and get overtime. Some pay bonuses, but not as much for contractual workers.
Cons
High stress job and having to manage frequent, violent outbursts. The mental health aides are the ones mostly interacting with the children and managing outbursts, although the nurses are involved as well. There’s the possibility of getting physically injured. Overall, the stress of the job was not worth the pay. Very cliquey work environment. No on call requirement, but they will call you often on your days off to come in.
