Pros

Fixed work timings. Work starts and end early. Convenience of travelling due to island-wide company bus service. Organisation is very lean, thus have learning opportunities to develop oneself. Canteen food is relatively cheap, but not for the fussy eater.

Cons

A lot of constant power struggle and political infighting. Company believes in retrenching people from the bottom, while top management and people from the same camp are safe and indispensable. Because of this, morale is low and people have low confidence. Top management is prone to poor planning and decision-making (the common feeling on the ground) because they are always made from the same group of people. Company is unable to keep and retain good, talented employees, either by laying them off, or causing them to leave on their own. People are always constantly leaving. Company has a culture of retrenching and hiring again, so people looking to join should think twice. A lot of workload on the people who stays, where bonuses/increments/promotions are none/little/not guaranteed. Top management should be in touch more with the ground.

Pros

- Cooperative and collaborative working level staff makes work more enjoyable. - Good to learn for a first job and to train tenacity.

Cons

Location is very deep in Tuas even with island wide company transport, do expect ~1 hour of travelling to office. Department level - High turnover rate - Firefighting with no time for improvement works - High expectations. (always required to start work 20 min ahead of time to complete task for daily morning meeting, high tendency to be questioned critically every morning if data is not prepared 15mins after start work hour) - Dismissal of employee effort. - Focus on employee shortcomings rather than solving the issue at hand - Workplace favoritism (Extra critical on non-favorite employee, extra lenient with favorite employee) - Unwilling to approve leave for non-favourite employee - Gaslighting (Accused of intentionally underperforming) Company level - Company tends to “Squeeze” employee to ensure production is smooth - Company provides little opportunity for learning of new skills, learning are mostly on job training. - Company direction tends to change on very short notice, leading to higher stress levels with the many changes and correction required in short notice. - Higher management seems to be promoting faster than working level staffs
