Pros
Solid mission statement. The team I worked for, Workforce Development, provided an opportunity to help real people who are experiencing unemployment or underemployment gain the skills and confidence to compete in the workforce. Connect them with financial grants that pay for schooling that they did not know existed. Lots of life changing outcomes.
Cons
Because grant availability is affected by lots of things that are difficult to predict or control, it is sometimes hard to predict outcomes or set projections. Also, internally, there was what disconnect between marketing and my team-appointment setting and lead generation. In hindsight, I think information was provided only on a "need to know" basis and there were different opinions on what constitutes a need to know. The grants we were working with had specific qualifiers that were based on geography (city/county of residence) and household income/employment status. It required constant communication with marketing as to where to geographically focus the marketing, which could vary from week to week. I'm not sure this was understood so consequently the marketing was often off and the candidates were not a good fit. It is complicated but it could have been done better in my opinion. When I tried to make targeting suggestions to marketing, I received no response and never once in my 2+ years was I ever asked by marketing about the quality of the leads. I found this baffling. I thought we should been communicating weekly- since that is how frequently targets changed.
