Challenging work, evolving business, brilliant people - Principal Consultant Q5 Employee Review

Pros

Lots of openness and opportunity to work on interesting projects - obviously it depends on the available pipeline of work but my experience is that Q5 works harder than any of their peers to listen to consultant's preferences and development when staffing projects. Opportunity to get involved in growing the business, very flat culture so 'junior' people can get much more exposure to more than in other places (senior clients, all aspects of project delivery and business development).

Cons

Work can be relentless - consulting is tough and demanding. Whatever the 'permission' it can be hard to prioritise other things when your team-mates are all up against it. Growth means the organisation is evolving and so roles and accountabilities can feel in flux... Can make it hard to predict what the future organisation will look like. Starting to put more structure around certain 'communities' (eg sector groups servicing certain types of client). This is natural but need to be very careful cliques don't form.

Pros

Great strategic minds, great vision, cutting edge of organizational health and they truly care about their employees.

Cons

None specifically for Q5. Cons of the consulting industry as a whole...it can be stressful to be in a client service industry. Your job satisfaction often is linked to the client's culture for your day-to-day work. I feel that Q5 really stays on top of this to ensure their consultants truly enjoy their projects.

Pros

It's a good working environment that mostly gets things right when it comes to work life balance and not having to travel too much. It is an inclusive company where everyone's opinion can be aired and everyone works together to improve the company. Junior consultants will get great exposure to senior clients in ways that people wouldn't experience at other organizations until they were older.

Cons

As a growing company, Q5 is still finding its feet in some areas. This means that some internal solutions can be makeshift but there is a genuine effort to try and address these and as the company continues to grow these should be ironed out.
