Pros

Sometimes the CEO buys employees lunch.

Cons

This is a small business with limited infrastructure to support employees—there is no HR department or formal policies in place. Lunch Break Expectations: The CEO, Hardeep, often expected employees to be available during their unpaid lunch break. She would frequently ask me to check on tasks or answer work-related questions while I was eating. Unpredictable Work Hours: The stated business hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. However, weekend work could be required with little notice. For example, I was once asked to come in on a weekend to help clean the office, a task not outlined in my job description. Job Responsibilities Beyond the Job Description: My official title was Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager. However, after being hired, I was frequently assigned additional responsibilities, including warehouse work (picking and packing orders), product research and development, supplier management, and quality control. These tasks were not included in my job description, nor did they come with additional compensation. Personal Tasks & A Second Business: On multiple occasions, I was asked to use my design skills for personal tasks or for Hardeep’s second business during Pursen’s business hours. In a larger company, work for a separate business would typically be compensated separately and completed outside of standard work hours. Limited Employee Benefits: The company does not offer health insurance or other benefits. PTO is limited to five days per year, starting in January.

Pros

I have been here for almost 6 months and I have really come to feel like family here, it is a great feeling to be (genuinely) smiled at every morning when I walk in. Being in a small and close-knit company everyone knows your name, and maybe even your favorite thing to eat for lunch, which I think is really nice. Everybody here really seems to look out for everyone and their well-being. I not only enjoy working with these people I consider them all good friends. Hardeep (CEO) is a very kindhearted and strong woman, that I am proud to know and work for. She greets everyone personally (by name) every time she walks in the door (sometimes accompanied by her adorable dog Leia who is the cutest office assistant in the world) which I find extremely heartwarming. I really feel that I am not only needed but wanted here. Working for such a strong willed, and hard working women is a wonderful experience for me to look up to being a young lady, and a recent college graduate. I don’t know any other companies that would allow you to really do your own thing so much with your work. I have been able to really express myself and be as creative as I want here, Hardeep is always encouraging me and other workers to do what we think is right, and of course if she doesn’t like it she will let you know, but in a very constructive type of way, she has never use told us “I don’t like this” without having a reason or an idea behind it. Overall I feel that I have grown and really accomplished a lot in my career path while being at PurseN. This company has really made me feel confident in my work and that is such a good feeling being so fresh in this new “adult” world that I am emerging into.

Cons

The only Con I can really think of is if you don't like to work, you will not fit in. We are all very hard workers and being a small/gorwing company you could very well be pulled into several different projects at once. At PurseN we are all about the team, we are constantly growing and learning new things, if you don't know how to do something, someone will help you figure it out!

Pros

The owners have obviously spent lots of money making the office an aesthetically pleasing place to be in, so, when all else fails, if you're in the office, at least you'll have pretty things to look at.

Cons

The owners. They are the worst. The absolute worst. They are disorganized. They are petty. They are immature. The turnover rate? It's ridiculous. They lose someone at least once a month. They will either make up a reason to fire you or you'll quit. And be careful - you'll need to agree with every single thing that the owner says. Also be mindful that you don't take orders from her husband, the other owner, because she will step in, start arguing with him in front of you, and tell you to do something else, even if she has no idea what you're talking about. There are no opportunities for advancement. Do not think you are coming to this job to start a career with a high fashion brand. You are not. There are no benefits either. The management will do anything in their power to ensure that you are not eligible.
