Pros

People in the trenches who really care about patients and making an impact.

Cons

This company continues to use the “we’re a startup” excuse to justify disorganization, poor leadership, and an appalling lack of professionalism, even though they are long past the "startup" stage. The truth is, the chaos isn’t the result of growing pains; it’s the result of a culture that rewards cutthroat behavior. Those who thrive here do so by stepping on others, not by working as a team. Leadership not only tolerates this, they encourage it, all while preaching about values and innovation they don’t actually practice. The environment is toxic and mentally draining for anyone who values integrity or respect. What’s worse is that none of this is new. The same complaints about toxicity, favoritism, and absolute dysfunction have appeared in reviews for YEARS, and yet leadership either can’t or won’t fix it. They respond to criticism with empty platitudes while the same problems fester behind the scenes. Outwardly, the company puts on a polished, forward-thinking image but internally, it’s a revolving door of burned-out employees and broken promises. If you’re looking for a place that values people, collaboration, or accountability, look elsewhere. This isn’t growth culture... it’s survival of the fittest at its worst.

Pros

- I've never worked anywhere with a culture as strong as PurposeMed - Everyone comes to work with an immense passion for helping others, both our patients and members of our team - We are helping thousands of underserved people access healthcare across Canada, and everyone understands how what they do fits into that mission - Ability to work remotely or from the office if you are in Calgary - Competitive salary, lots of time off including the full holiday week in December, extra long weekends in the summer

Cons

- Employee benefits are decent but could be improved - Building a company is hard work, everyone here goes the extra mile which can add up, but management is very good at recognizing those moments and giving people the time they need to disconnect - There are so many things we can help people with, picking what's next is challenging!

Thanks for taking the time to review us! We’re very happy to hear that the culture here is the strongest you’ve experienced and that you’re enjoying some of our perks and benefits—we’re looking forward to the next extended holiday weekend coming up soon! Your review was shared before we increased our benefits package this June, which we hope now meets more of your needs, but if there’s ever feedback that you want to share, or ideas you have to improve our offerings, please don’t hesitate to reach out to anyone on the People team.

Pros

- Great people working in non-executive roles - Staff very committed to providing patients the best

Cons

- Lack of experience and insight amongst exec and founder team impacts operations - Stated values are not at all the practices of the company - profit is the number one priority over patients and staff - Sexist and nepotistic culture - staff from underrepresented groups continually treated poorly, yet publicly displayed as tokens - Frequent layoffs and great people 'quitting', esp those who disagreed with direction of company

We're grateful for the time you've taken to write us a review and glad to hear that you feel like our team is committed to providing patients with excellent care. Some of the messages that you’ve shared here, specifically the mention of sexist and nepotistic culture and that staff from underrepresented groups are treated poorly, are concerning. Given the populations that we serve, and our mission to improve access to care for underserved communities, we take diversity, acceptance, and belonging seriously. Being inclusive is one of our core values, and something that we pride ourselves on, as our team is quite diverse here at PurposeMed in many ways. It appears that you are no longer with PurposeMed—although you no longer work here, we would be more than happy to discuss your concerns with a member of our People team if there’s anything you feel should be surfaced for us to look into further. If you feel comfortable, please reach out to people@purposemed.com.
