Pros

Reasonable pay (but in my opinion still not worth the stress)

Cons

24hr call outs were the worst part of the job, also not discussed at interview. Should be more transparent - you may be called out at 3am to reset fire alarms, deal with accidents etc. At the time, you were also not paid for call outs, this might have changed. A few managers left due to this. Also very stretched for staff - the deficit model made it difficult to recruit staff. So managers were expected to instruct 2-3 group exercise classes a day on top of their management work. A tough job & I worked at a few other gym operators who did not operate like this.

Pros

The only “good” thing is the small percentage of new equipment and that some gyms are 24 hours.

Cons

Management is unfair, cutting hours and expecting a single worker to handle the entire gym. Incredible staff are undervalued, while third-party cleaners and side services pretend to solve problems they don’t. Members are chaotic, shifts are impossible, and yet leadership refuses to hire properly. Think smarter, not cheaper.
