Pros

experience gained in cell phone repairs

Cons

Puls came to North west Arkansas in late 2018 with the hopes of becoming apart of the Walmart family. The goal? to be a customers one stop shop for all things in the electronics department including repairs for items such as cell phones and tablets. I was one of the original technicians for the Arkansas team . When the Puls higher ups arrived they asked us if we had any tips on how to get the most exposure in the area. I told them that they should be in stores that have a consistent amount of traffic in the electronic section , but to not expect a constant flow of repairs for due to cost. This area is built on families with middle to low income so they may not see the value in getting there phone repaired when a new pre paid phone costs the same. Also because of this do not nickle and dime these customers because this is a heavily word of mouth area and image is everything. Also invest in working with the local university as well. Needless to say they did not take my advice on any level what so ever. We were told to charge customers for stupid things such as installing a screen protector or the management told us that if a customer has a dirty charging port to recommend a new one rather than clean the old one and if we did clean it to charge a full diagnostic fee even though the cleaning service is free. The manager did not like it at all if you spoke your mind. She would often say I have over 20 years with Verizon as a trump card to any issue that we would bring to the table. I have a well standing relationship with this community and it showed when customers came in every week asking for me by name and referring me to family members so because of this I went against that managers wishes constantly by doing a few things. First I would tell then customer exactly what was wrong with the phone and how to better prevent the issue in the future by recommending certain charge cords, cases or how to store the device. I would also give them tips on how to monitor there phones battery health as well as things to look out for that were known defects with the device. If a customer came up to me with an issue that was a simple fix such as cleaning and testing manufactured defects if they relayed to the issue I would not charge them the diagnostic fee instead i would show them how to correct the problem and reassure them that there phone doesn't need a part replaced. Because of my ability to always listen to the customer I would consistently receive star reviews and would often be asked my opinion in other areas such as tvs and sound systems. Needless to say that the company pulled out of the arkansas market. why? Because they weren't making enough revenue. Not just here but every single Walmart store that they were in. Why ? Because they were training the techs to be money hungry machines who didn't care about the customers pocket.
