Pros

Puffin is a small team with a lot of fun personalities. You can tell that everyone wants to do their part to make the company succeed. There is some incredible talent at Puffin. The team is scrappy, coming up with new, interesting ideas to keep customers engaged. You get to work cross-departmentally in ways that are very unique. Generous PTO policy. Puffin got started on the right foot.

Cons

This review reflects recent (2024) changes at Puffin. The CEO is uninterested in employee retention. Reducing overhead comes at the cost of employee wages. Zero to minimal raises are offered despite high risk to employees working at a startup and employees going above job description. Office is loud and distracting to work in. Work from home policy isn't helpful to employees. I expect to see high turnover in the next year.

Pros

Working at Puffin has been an outstanding experience. The company's mission resonates deeply with me, offering both a sense of purpose and direction that aligns with my personal values. Living in Bend has been an incredible opportunity, offering a work-life balance that’s hard to come by. The community spirit and the scenic beauty of the area contribute greatly to the overall quality of life. The professional and personal growth opportunities at Puffin have been abundant, with management that is genuinely invested in the employees’ development.

Cons

As with many start-ups, navigating the uncharted waters of COVID-19 presented its fair share of challenges. The pandemic tested our adaptability and resilience, as we worked to maintain our momentum and uphold our mission amidst the global uncertainty.

Pros

Puffin is a fun, energetic startup with a promising product. The team is collaborative, hard-working, and a joy to spend time around. The company allows dogs in-office. The small team size allowed me to learn a lot and grow within my role.

Cons

Be wary of a company that touts "fun" as a benefit. Aside from the generous PTO policy, benefits are lackluster and work/life balance is not prioritized. Recent policy changes coupled with inconsistent rule enforcement across departments have created a toxic environment riddled with frustration and trust issues. Management is more concerned with employee's physical presence in-office rather than performance. Work from home policy is rigid and doesn't reflect the changing needs of the workforce. Compensation falls short of market value, and raises do little to keep up with the high cost of living in Bend.
