Pros

Coworkers work well together, and have a camaraderie due to the long hours put in together.

Cons

- The CEO has no real vision of where the company should go, only vague ideas that "our product will be used by every local government" - The CEO embezzles funds to pay for her lavish apartment and personal dinners.

Pros

As an intern it was great working with and learning from computer scientists and environmental scientists who knew their stuff. Solving startup challenges together as a team was exciting! The technical and market teams have been getting stronger it seems than before and have the right industry experience. The CEO is an inspiring female founder. Not only does she obviously care about our environmental company mission and invented a new way to manage sustainability that might change the world, we also noticed by the things she did every day to keep us going: from keeping us well-fed and taking the team out often, to constantly asking for everyone's feedback transparently and encouraging us to take initiative. I could feel that she cares about us as people. It's a very nice startup work environment.

Cons

Small team with lots of areas still needing people to fill in and help.

Pros

- I was brought in as an engineering consultant for ProductBio. This company recently went through a re-org of the engineering team and I am impressed by how quickly the transformation took place as well as by the level of expertise the new engineering leadership is bringing. Specifically, bringing experience from Google, Stanford PhD in CS and with proven startup scaling experience - upping ProductBio's game by a lot. Necessary re-orgs are tough, but ProductBio is better positioned as a result of it. - Access to guidance from team advisors. The company is still small enough to allow direct access to Silicon Valley's top advisors via the CEO. For example, the recent re-org was guided by top technical advisors, angel investors, and executive coaches. It's looking like, with these strategic changes, ProductBio will be able to realize its full potential in sustainability management capabilities. - Small but mighty team allows for rare and diverse combination of technical ability and passion about climate change, which is hard to find in engineering. ProductBio managed to pull this kind of team together after the re-org and the engineering culture feels refreshed as a result. I'm personally excited to see this technical powerhouse come through in this upcoming product release. The team also does a good job of soliciting user tested feedback and is starting to go to market. I really enjoyed working with the team and feel personal pride in making the world more sustainable.

Cons

ProductBio is an early-stage startup company. They're still gaining experience in the management and hiring aspects. It's exciting to see a company overcome growing pains, admit initial hiring mistakes and turn things around with a stronger team and turn adversity into opportunities for improvement. I'd say if your heart is not truly in sustainability, or not bullish on the long-term data analytics angle of the company strategy, you will not be happy working here, as most of the upside is in the stock options and satisfaction derived from your own ability to help make the vision a reality. All part of the startup game.
