Emergency dispatcher/call taker - Emergency Dispatcher Prince George's County Employee Review

Pros

It's a job I guess.

Cons

Unless you really want to be an emergency dispatcher, I would advise you to explore other careers. The hiring process is entirely too long for a $32,000 salary. You have to pass an exam, do two background checks, interview with a panel, submit high school and college transcripts, etc. You'll probably have to work weekends, evening or night shift and through holidays once hired. You can apply for a Security Officer position and get paid the same amount. The job is less stressful and only requires one trip to the Reeves Center for a license.

Pros

Dedicated, friendly colleagues Decent benefits and pay

Cons

Lack of support from senior county leaders makes doing basic business almost impossible, incompetent county senior leadership who are also bullies, cronyism and corruption and fraud/waste/abuse that trickle down from the county executive, little work schedule flexibility
