Pros

I worked at Prime Controls as an Automation Specialist on contract, and was laid off after 8 months. They claimed they didn't have any work available to keep me around. During the interview 8 months earlier, they had claimed to have plenty of work that they had to borrow people from other locations, and never had laid off anyone. Both are no longer true. During the 8-month period, Prime Controls hired 3 Automation Specialists on salary and several technicians for the Houston office. I can only assume their other locations grew similarly. Furthermore, they recently opened an office in Tempe, AZ (an e-mail with the subject line "Here we grow again" addressed that). Sounded like a company that wasn't downsizing. What I didn't realize was that some jobs were to be cut to facilitate growth, including mine. So long as you're on salary, you're safe no matter the offense. An Automation Specialist at the Houston office frequently slept at his desk. I know that because my desk was behind his. He snored loudly. Did he get laid off? Absolutely not!

Cons

The manager justified my layoff by claiming (repeatedly) that he had lost his job in the past. He didn't specify how many times it had happened to him, so it's a fair assumption that it was only one time for him. This is my 4th layoff! He then added insult to injury by telling me to treat this time as long vacation. How am I supposed to go on vacation when I'm broke and have no income?!! He also tried to play psychiatrist by insisting that I should get how I felt off my chest. How would it help? I'm out of a job, with no income to support my family. I was also informed by same manager that Aerotek would be notified if I'm to be needed back at Prime Controls. This is a clear message that Prime Controls has no intention of ever bringing me in permanently.

Pros

Great if you want a divorce and a chemical dependency, and love being disrespected by management.

Cons

Long hours, no overtime, broken commitments on the company side. No respect from management to mid or low level.
