Pros

Like any company, the PS company culture strives for excellence in services provided to clients, but also emphasizes the value and benefit of the scribe experience in preparation for future medical education and careers. Prepares aspiring medical professionals through the opportunity to work alongside physicians and observe the realities of medical care across multiple specialties and office types. While scribes don't perform medical procedures or have direct patient interaction, it's an excellent opportunity to learn medical terminology, common billing and coding, and the flow of patient care. Scribes also often build rapport with physicians who may later provide letters of recommendation for program applications or other mentorship opportunities. The network of scribe alumni has also been beneficial in preparing for medical programs and other learning opportunities. Scheduling is generally flexible around school schedules.

Cons

Because most scribes and scribe managers are students, there can be high turnover when employees graduate programs or leave for education purposes. This can sometimes be challenging with change in staffing and training new scribes/managers, but the administration is supportive and accessible during the transition.
