Pros

Decent pay and decent budgets for things like a L&D stipend, 401k match. The product is incredibly simplistic and not ground breaking, which enables a quick and easy on-boarding. The simplicity is also good as a series A because we don’t require expensive engineers or talent due, but this doesn’t mean the company isn’t in a tough spot financially for 2023.

Cons

The most toxic culture I have worked at, that reeks of hypocrisy for an “inclusion and belonging mission driven company.” No diversity of thought and there is a preference for certain demographic types. The youngest company in regards to average age that I’ve ever worked at and it shows. We are filled with people who are academics or straight out of school or social work. The reason I still currently work here is because 2023 is a terrible time to find a new job, and I enjoy early stage companies which is even more dire in 2023. Firings are incredibly common, without notice or performance improvement plans. There is no circle of safety. Employees who are challengers and not as agreeable with top brass because they see issues and know we need to work different are routinely fired. There is no psychology safety to experiment and to think like scientists, but you are a better match if you are a militant ideologue for social justice. The amount of firings for black males in particular continues to be alarming. No product market fit, only able to land deals with investor intros through favors and personal wins. Compared against other DE&I or well-being companies, we are seen even more as nice to have than other like minded organizations in this space. Low ARR and a high burn rate. Investors have punted the Series B for this year so unless serious layoffs are made, I’m not sure we will make it through 2023. The most inexperienced group of leadership that I’ve seen in my career. The good leaders seem to not jive with our young co founders (one is just over 30 and the other is in her twenties) because this is essentially the co-founders’ first real corporate job. The c-suite members who seem to have at least some experience and could fix things have either stayed quiet and drink the kool-aid or they have left.

Pros

The purpose of the company is to create workplace training materials to support healthy and functional workplaces. The leadership put their own messaging into practice in their company by being transparent and supportive of the teams. There was room for advancement, and opportunities to learn both technical and people skills. The group of people working at Praxis are extremely creative, interesting and skilled in many areas from software development to art. They put a high level of care into what they produce and into the collaboration process.

Cons

As a start-up, time and funds were tight and this caused pressure on the job.
