Pros

Excellent benefits (health, vacation, sick leave, retirement, tuition, etc) Some fantastic managers and coworkers Making a difference in students lives/education

Cons

A lot of bureaucratic inefficiencies Budget problems mean hiring freezes, leaving overworked and undervalued employees and rewriting of job duties. Lack of respectful and timely response to requests for ada accomodations. Direct managers are being shoved over to make way for what upper managers want even if it's not what's best for the department or team. Some departments have toxic petty schoolage drama vibes in upper management with clear favoritism.

Pros

It's a really great opportunity to get up and learn to teach your own class rather than just working with a professor as a TA. Really comprehensive and rewarding experience.

Cons

The pay is unlivable unless you're not paying rent. The contract is 15 hours a week, but obviously if you're just starting to teach as a GA, you put in WAY more than 15 hours of work. If you come up against a problem, there is very little oversight or support.
