Pros

The people are mostly great, and getting the whole company together somewhere in the world annually is an unforgettable experience. It's fun to be able to share what you work on with friends and family. They are the best personal media server available.

Cons

Burnout from being pulled in too many, halfway thought through, hair-brained directions, getting something barely shippable, shipping it, and getting pulled off to the next thing. Now that feature is effectively dead on delivery. Many of the engineers came to Plex because they enjoyed using it for their personal media. It's been disheartening to see Plex move more towards the free, ad-supported product offerings. Pay was significantly under market value.

Pros

Flexible Schedule: Balance Plex work with other clients. Project Variety: Exposure to different media, expanding your portfolio. Remote Work: Likely more flexible working locations. Industry Credibility: Plex is a recognized name, boosting your portfolio. Skill Growth: Opportunity to learn new tools and techniques. Diverse Work: Variety of formats like TVOD, VOD.

Cons

Unclear Growth Path: As a freelancer, there’s often no clear path for career progression or moving into a full-time role. Isolation: Remote work or freelancing might make you feel disconnected from the team or company culture. You wouldn’t have access to benefits like health insurance, retirement plans, or paid time off.

Pros

- Excellent engineering team that is highly involved in the design process and - Free travel twice a year to cool places and everyone is pretty cool IRL - Good work/life balance - The CEO, founders and HR are pretty cool

Cons

- I heard many employees complain during one of the cons that they didn't get raises and they didn't have opportunities for promotions even though they had been there for many years. That was a red flag to me and a big reason for my exit.
