Sinking ship with toxic culture stemming from the Chief People Officer (CPO) - Anonymous employee Planday Employee Review

Pros

Was fortunate enough to gain some valuable experience thanks to the manager I had when I joined (who later departed not long before I chose to leave myself). He is the only reason my review isn't a 1 star.

Cons

There is a massive lack of accountability and execution of any strategic plans within Planday. While the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for the most part are really supportive of their individual teams, the CPO Birgitte Pihl is only what I can describe as a cancer to this company. Many talented individuals left the company because of her and I can only imagine many more will continue to leave. Birgitte is wildly incompetent, lacks any sort of empathy and fails to see any value outside of her beloved Copenhagen based office. As long as she has a hand on the wheel this ship is destined to sink and fail.

Hi, I was sad to see myself described as “cancer”. This is a very harsh word about anyone, and I certainly take this very much to heart. I am not sure who you are or who would write this, but I would like to understand in what way I could have upset anyone that much to be described in such a way. Whatever it is I have done, I am very sorry you feel this way. You are very welcome to contact me directly so we can talk through things. When reviews are this harsh and feelings are so strong, I always believe it is best to talk it through live so we can better understand each other’s position. I welcome this opportunity, and I truly hope I hear from you. You know my email address. Best Birgitte Pihl, CPO

Pros

Most colleagues are friendly, some people are amazing, but most of them left to pursue better opportunities. Quite good with social events and coming up with different activities. Lunch is good. Work/life balance is ok.

Cons

In this organization, only the sales team gets praised and rewarded. Mostly, other people are underpaid, not recognized, and barely get salary increases or other benefits. Some employees, with extremely challenging jobs, long working hours, and multiple years of seniority, have insanely low pay. There are absolutely no growth opportunities. No career progression opportunities and no budget to take any courses to get certified. The management says that they are open for change and more effective processes, but when it is time to implement a new process, they start to come up with reasons why it is not a good time to do it and that we should not take away the freedom to let employees do tasks in their own, unstructured way. The workplace advertises a hybrid culture, but the department executive does not believe that any work gets done when working from home. He was always sitting by the door to look at what time people come to work and leave. Only the ones being the first ones in and last ones out are “productive”. Once, I had to defend myself to be allowed to go to the GP in the middle of the day to get antibiotics for a bacterial infection, and got questioned by the said executive whether visiting the GP "is really necessary". I am so blessed that I got out of this place.

Hello there, Thank you for sharing your candid feedback — we genuinely appreciate it, even when it's difficult to read. We are really sorry to hear that your experience left you feeling unrecognised and that the day-to-day environment felt restrictive. This is not reflective of the culture we have built at Planday, and it is not the experience we want anyone to have. We do have growth opportunities and a learning budget in place, and we are sorry these did not feel accessible or visible to you during your time with us. We are committed to continuous improvement and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your specific experience, so we can investigate and address it directly. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at alyssa.nenstiel@planday.com. Best wishes, Alyssa Nenstiel People Experience Partner at Planday
