Pros

Interesting data science problems to work on The data is at a scale that provokes tough technical challenges Wide range of platforms and technologies in use which provides good educational opportunities There are a large number of employees who are good people and fun to work with

Cons

Unsupportive and hostile management No chances for career growth Poor compensation both base and stock Negative culture and atmosphere (highly political with a large amount of griping) Shady business practices both towards employees and users CEO is an egomaniac (how are there no other C level execs?) Upper management lacks any engineering background

Pros

Our Executive team is composed of some of the hardest working individuals I've ever met and Placed is a reflection of the passion they put into the business. There is no sugarcoating that working at Placed means working hard but it also means working with some of the smartest, driven individuals in the area and working for a growing start-up with a very long future ahead of it. There are little-to-no politics or egos and a lot of respect for each other. Other pros: free lunch, unlimited snacks/food, a benefits packages that continues to get stronger each year, a 401(k) with match (and no vest), flexibility if you need to work from home - and to-the-point, informative meetings which means I can actually do my job.

Cons

Don't sweat the small stuff: we have a large, hard-working Executive team that can be too involved with smaller day-to-day things and details. Define and communicate: as more senior leadership has come on board, it is not always clear who the decision maker or final authority is - or how it's changed as the org continues to grow. Process isn't a bad thing: there is some resistance to implementing process or defining ownership where it's needed which has resulted in some friction between teams (or between older employees versus newer ones).
