Pros
The pay is okay, but the leave is outstanding. If you value time off over financial compensation, it's a good choice. Good funding model. As a whole, the system seems to provide a positive experience to its employees.
Cons
I had an extremely toxic manager, who clearly favored other candidates to me. She would pull me aside weekly for criticisms, from the start, stating little things she didn't want me to do. She'd then deliberately trap me into doing them, like discussing my other library job or sharing what I didn't like about the endless trainings required. After two months, with no concrete reasons, she told me I wasn't "a good fit" for the position and ended my employment. While everyone else in Pioneer Library System has been wonderful to work with, she really left a sour taste in my mouth toward the system, as a whole. I far prefer and recommend Metro, especially since the pay and benefits are far superior. This is where I've built my career and have never once received any similar treatment There are, of course, terrible managers everywhere, but she still works for this system and should not be in a position of power.
