Pros
Autonomy, purpose-driven work, amazing colleagues and dynamic students. Lots of trust is placed in faculty to design to their strengths, and it leads to dynamic classrooms. Caring, supportive environment for students. When you’re off, you’re off. Great place to work if you’re good at holding boundaries and are ok with just going with the flow of the place.
Cons
Administration sometimes can’t get out of its own way and half-heartedly commits to initiatives and its projected progressive philosophy - which creates crises that the faculty are left to respond to. Communication with faculty is poor and precious time is often wasted in committees and meetings where decisions have already been made. Always opportunities (and asks) to do more in the community but rarely for professional growth or to be rewarded for those efforts. School often prioritizes investment of time and money in athletics over academics.
