Pros
I had a fun job (on paper) while working for this company, which owns a range of commercial properties across Canada. My job was to coordinate marketing events and promotions for one of their properties (which unfortunately wasn't doing well). Head office wasn't particularly involved in our day-to-day, so it was nice to have some autonomy. The job itself was a blast - I really got to be creative and build things from the ground up, from brainstorming and researching to on-the-ground execution. We were allowed to bank overtime for worked events, although that policy seemed to change - I was told you could bank them for use at any time, but then it got shortened to the immediate days surrounding the day or weekend worked. We also got some from perks from some of the tenants in the building, but that wasn't really a result of the job itself.
Cons
The number one flaw here was the management. The person in charge of this particular property was a bully, misogynist and arrogant leader that made little-to-no progress in terms of improving the fundamental flaws in place. If anything, the building's situation is even more abysmal than when I worked there, and all of my former coworkers have left, citing the manager as the number one reason for doing so. Any fun to be had doing my job was sucked out by the negative energy coming from the manager.
In addition, the benefits for the non-union staff are pretty terrible, whereas the unionized staff roll into work and do a brutal job, yet it takes a HUGE amount of effort to get one of them out of the union.
Altogether, the job was great - but the work environment, old school policies, and inability to effect change given head office's arms length from the property made it a frustrating work environment with nowhere to go.
