Collegial atmosphere needs improvement . As the new member on the team, two peers walked into my office to welcome me in the first month. The rest just kept to themselves. Poor leadership and mentorship above the Dean level. The first experience with leadership demonstrated little care for my professional goals, outlining their vision and how I would fit in. No leader ever asked me about my family and demonstrated any care about me personally. I was looking for just one boss to invite me to coffee or lunch, but that never happened. “No mistakes” culture. The leadership will closely monitor anything you say in class and what you post on your personal social media page. As with most institutions now, mistakes will be met with zero tolerance and a loss of job. Since it is a small town, the gossip is rampant.
