Pros

A lot of great people working here and a Team that stick together. A very International environment and there are a lot of learning opportunities. If you joined more than 3 years ago you are in a great position equity wise.

Cons

We once had a great culture but this has died in the past 6 months. We no longer live up to our values, and there are so many strange things happening very suddenly that don’t make any sense. Many surprises, but definitely not good ones. Everything is presented with big smiles as great news, but it’s completely tone deaf. So many people have been fired, have quit or are planning to quit. We were all rated down in the recent performance reviews with expectations changed last minute. The mood has never been this bad. The founders are completely absent and I’m not sure if they know the extent of the problem. A new executive joined from a large US social media company and they have completely upended the culture in Product and Engineering. They already hired more than 50 people from the same company and we are now opening an office in the US. People who were junior there are joining as Directors at Personio. I expect the plan is to replace all of us who built the company, and in fact we have already lost a couple of our founding employees. A lot of people are wondering why Personio, a company that manages the personal data of almost a million employees in Europe, would hire so many people from a company infamous for promoting fake news, helping to rig elections and caught sharing personal data with companies like Cambridge Analytica. It doesn’t make sense.

Hi - thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. Of course, I’m disappointed to read about your frustrations, particularly your concerns on culture change. Feedback is what helps us improve, so if you feel comfortable, I’d like to have a confidential chat with you to hear more. Your People Partners or another member of the People team would also be happy to have a conversation. As you know, Personio is currently experiencing a period of intense growth. Our teams and our product offering are expanding at high speed, and while this is exciting, it can also create new challenges for us. This topic is being widely discussed across the company, at leadership level and within our All Team Weekly call in Hanno’s Ask Me Anything a few weeks ago. Our goal is to align on where we have challenges and work together to create the best environment we can for our Personios. Thank you again for this review, and please feel free to Slack me and we can have a confidential talk. I would love to get your feedback about how we can improve on the issues you raised. Sebastian, VP Engineering

Pros

Smart collaborative colleagues at the lower IC levels.

Cons

Personio is a dying company. The over-complexity of the company's technical systems is comical. Every attempt to simplify seems to lead to more complexity as things get half migrated and left to rot. Engineering leadership seems clueless and unable to present a clear plan-of-action to get things on track. Principal engineers force engineering time to be spent on silly projects that don't move the needle long-term. There is an overall aversion to taking the time to learn deeply about systems being used. Personio feels like a combination of all of the negatives of both a startup and a mature tech company, with none of the positives. The tech is half assed and duct taped together, but still somehow everything moves at a glacial pace. There is a mass shared delusion at the company that an IPO is in reach. No investor is going to buy this company's junk shares on the open market.
