Pros
Employees are some of the best I've worked with. Great work ethic, solid principles and values and extremely kind and helpful. Fantastic benefits package. Located in beautiful Knoxville, TN. They believe in what they do and the value it brings to the preservation of security and life. Employees in the engineering and technical professions have been there 10+ years, so there is loyalty and longevity for these disciplines. The downside is, there are no opportunities for new and younger engineering professionals to infuse new ideas and innovation.
Cons
This is an engineering driven organization, which is extremely hostile to sales and marketing disciplines, turning over VP's in Sales & Marketing every 2-years or less. In a 5 year period, I had 5 different bosses. CEO is extremely unprofessional, using intimidation, threats and negativity to lead and has been known to publicly berate members in senior and middle management. If you seek an environment where ideas, experience and skills are valued, this will not be a good fit for you. New ideas and change are difficult for senior management to embrace. That resistance to change and innovation make for an extremely slow product development process. In the 5-years I was there, there were only two promotions from within, so if you are looking to grow a career, there is little opportunity for advancement inside the company. The leadership team struggles in forming a clear and consistent identity and vision for the company, which creates unrealistic expectations about market sizes and needs.
