Pros

Laptops and wireless for everyone makes sharing ideas so fun and easy! The employees are super cool. The dress code is non-existent. Vacation is non-accrual. The kitchen is awesome - almost gourmet level, and the wide selection of drinks are free. The clients are mostly higher ed, and that gives one a sense of purpose and value.

Cons

Vista bought this company and fired the entire executive team immediately, installing their own people. The CEO is insincere and narcissistic. His temper is volatile. Working for him frightened and embarrassed me. Employees are leaving at an alarming rate, and so much knowledge has walked out the door that I’m afraid for PA. The benefits are an insult to any IT professional in Austin. Make sure your partner can provide you with insurance because you won't want what they offer here. WFH used to be optional and this was a family friendly place. Not anymore. You must be in your chair in the office 5 days a week for at least 8 hours a day. I always had to work weekends as well. Yes, every weekend. And I usually worked before and after office hours as well. Before Vista, this was one of the coolest places to work in Austin. But now, I would not recommend it to anyone. Someone else said it was a work hard play hard mentality. Yes those words are often said, but there is no play time - except for all the goodbye lunches for departing employees!

Pros

I held this summer internship before my junior year, so my goal was to gain good work experience that I could put on my resume and talk about in interviews. Throughout the summer, I worked on three projects, each of which gave me a unique experience. I talked about my internship in every single interview, and I could tell employers were impressed that I actually made an impact on the company. I also gained pretty good insight in terms of what a corporate strategy job (or consulting job) looks like for full-time. Additionally, the people I worked with were very nice, and the office was great.

Cons

Some of the internship work required data entry which is boring.

Pros

Awesome team to work with, even though most have left now.

Cons

First off, to the person who stated the new CEO started things like monthly birthday celebrations, office joy, and coffee talk with the CEO...this is blatantly untrue! All of this was started by the previous CEO, who cared so much about her employees and always tried to keep morale high. When I left, the office joy program had pretty much fallen apart and I never heard of one coffee talk happening since the new CEO took over. The company culture has been in freefall since the acquisition. By the time I left I saw so many really good people left because it was just to difficult to stay. The CEO has absolutely no boundaries and is, I'm sure, an HR nightmare. Calling people names (yes it was as a joke, but still so unprofessional), throwing tantrums, really just things that if well documented could get the company sued. Please also believe that he has no open door policy. It is a tool to "weed out the undesirables". You may not get fired, but eventually you will be let go for one reason or another. Since the work from home program has pretty much been phased out, morale took a bigger nose dive! It is amazing to me the low amount of trust that management has for its employees. If a company shows you no trust, how can you be a loyal employee? I'm sure Vista is a great place to make a career, I just wish I had the opportunity to find out.
