Pros

You get to create your own classes, and they show you a lot of respect. PhD students are treated as junior colleagues rather than slave labor. The insurance package for graduate assistants is fantastic. They also pay their GAs much better than many other universities.

Cons

It's unfortunate that most PhDs can't get more than two-year funding packages.

Pros

My supervisor was fantastic: provided good feedback, flexibility in work schedule, opportunities for professional growth.

Cons

Usually 1-2 year contract, determined by grant funding and availability Workplace experience is more dependent on the individual researcher/research lab you end up working for than the university as a whole
