Pros

Many of the staff are great to work with. Benefits and compensation are okay.

Cons

-EXTREMELY high turnover. The organization is almost unrecognizeable from a year ago. This is due to a combination of lay-offs, firings, and employees leaving. -Very inflexible scheduling for staff. -Different standards for management and staff. - Micromanaging and bureaucracy is rampant. It often feels that you aren't trusted with your own department. -Organizational change is happening so quickly, and with so little thought given. This has frustrated employees, left some without positions, and rendered many of the pre-existing programs useless. No consensus or direction on any level of the organization. -There is a huge separation, both physically and in communication, between administrative and program staff, meaning that decisions are made without a lot of basis of what things are actually like for clients, or for employees at the shelter.

Pros

They pay a little above average

Cons

Where to start? Only supervisors and above get work/life balance. While a higher-ups do their nails, hair, go to all kinds of personal appointments on company time, SOME (the ones that are not favorites) of the lowest ranking employees have to account for every minute of their work day. They’ll bully, gaslight, overwork and micromanage you. It’s like being in an abusive relationship with a narcissist, which is very ironic since it’s a non-profit “trying to” end domestic violence. In regards to the clients they help, they mostly help entitled people who constantly break rules and abuse employees. But if they’re a minority, they’ll kick them out as soon as possible. The racism against clients and employees is rampant. You can’t go to HR, because you’ll be bullied and gaslighted with a smile. Management gets away with everything. And they’ll encourage you to speak your mind, only to do everything in their power to get rid of you if you call them out. They have lost many great employees to some of the awful people they have in management. And if you’re related or friends with higher ups, you’ll get opportunities and privileges that other employees don’t. They’re a non-profit, yet everything is about money. Turnover rate is extremely high for such a small organization, yet they are not willing to listen to suggestions. They lost 1/4 of their employees in a matter of months.
