Pros

It’s a job that requires almost no qualifications -good for HS teens, the residents are amazing and I loved every second I spent with THEM.

Cons

The leadership is horrible - you get made to feel like you’re committing a crime for calling out with plenty of notice and get nothing but attitude. The pay rate is insultingly low considering they want you to do the job of a nurse. They don’t take DSP (who spend the most time with residents) seriously when they have concerns or suggestions on a residents care. They have no regard for staffs safety when it comes to violent residents. Truly the worst place I’ve worked.

Pros

We provide a unique service to the intellectual disabilities community. I always feel like my work matters. Good benefits such as paid time off, health, dental and vision benefits, retirement plan, life insurance, etc.

Cons

Low salary, extremely rural area (which is a plus for some, just not me). If you are a salaried employee (we have both salaried and hourly), you will be expect to work very long hours. If you are hourly, they try not to have you work overtime.
