Pros
If you are young and come from a history of surviving toxic relationships and people pleasing, you will find yourself right at home at Parade. Cami (the co-founder and CEO) is a true consumer marketing genius and a cunning businessperson to a fault. Driving business growth and ensuring a rapid exit for her company is her number one priority.
Cons
Working at Parade was a deeply disappointing and toxic experience. While the company presented itself as an exciting brand rewriting the underwear industry, the reality was quite different. Parade is essentially a basic apparel brand posing as a tech startup, led by an inexperienced and weak CEO focused on achieving personal wealth ASAP rather than building a sustainable business. Employees, particularly young and eager individuals, were exploited and pushed beyond their limits by Cami and her inner circle. The pressure to meet unrealistic goals, coupled with bullying and a lack of support, led to extreme stress levels and high turnover among the workforce. I often witnessed colleagues in tears, highlighting the stark contrast between Parade's external image and its internal reality. Few of the original employees at Parade remain today. Here's what it was actually like to work at Parade: - Manipulative, gaslighting culture: Parade's values were simply tools made up by Cami to manipulate and gaslight employees. The expectation to "move like water" meant that we should be prepared to abruptly abandon ongoing projects and switch gears whenever she changed her mind. - Disregard for employee wellbeing: It became evident during my tenure that Cami had little regard for creating a healthy work environment, despite ongoing executive coaching. Longtime employees appeared burnt out and distressed, with Cami often lashing out at them and accusing them of incompetence (but not to their faces). Her unprofessional behavior, including gossiping about employees at leadership social events, was unacceptable and inappropriate. - Mysterious co-founder departure: The departure of Parade's co-founder was shrouded in secrecy, requiring all employees to sign nondisclosure agreements. This lack of transparency raises questions about the company's integrity and stability. - Inequality and excessive lifestyle on display: While Cami marketed herself as a first-generation Latina founder, her affluent background and lavish lifestyle disconnected her from most employees. Discussions in leadership meetings regularly revolved around her luxury shopping habits, investments in real estate and startups, and extravagant vacations, which further highlighted the inequality within the small company. For anyone considering working at Parade, it's important to be aware of the manipulation, elitism, and late-stage capitalism embedded at the company's core. This can be witnessed right here on this review page, with the company's desperate attempts to push the truth revealed by former employees below false 5 star reviews.
