Pros

Working with kids is fun and a learning experience.

Cons

There was only effectively 3 hours off two weeknights in a full seven day working week. Saturdays were maybe off after 4 after picking up trash for a few hours if you weren't put on for an extra days work - without any notice - and without getting payed more for the extra days work. Besides the bad conditions, management did not hesitate to fire you. People got fired for standing up against the impossible working hours. The prospect of getting fired was verbalized and held against the counselors. Management had a bad attitude as well. They were the opposite of being approachable and helpful. Very condescending. Summer camps are fun. Find any other camp than this.

Thank you for your feedback, we want to bridge the gap between management and staff to make sure the communication is effective but always respectful! Holding employees accountable to their expectations while also hearing their concerns if any and addressing appropriately. Thank you again, camp is fun and it may be a job, but if our staff are also having some fun so are all the kids!

Pros

Such an amazing and dynamic work environment, would go back every summer if I could. You meet the most amazing people whilst growing in such a collaborative and safe space.

Cons

Only con would be sometimes promotions are based on the length of time you’ve worked there rather than who’s most fit/qualified for the job. Although this has improved over the years.

Pros

-Staff community is amazing, supportive, and fun. The true heart of the organization. -Outdoor environment and direct work with kids is very rewarding. -Colleagues consistently step up up for each other (albeit compensating for issues that come from above).

Cons

-The primary source of instability comes from the owner's leadership style. Expectations shift frequently and without clear communication, creating confusion for what I've noticed for both the year round staff, but it also manages to trickle down to the seasonal staff level too. -Strategic direction changes abruptly, often based on the owner's evolving preferences rather than a consistent long term plan. -High turnover in critical roles, especially directors and 'c suite' roles. This stems from the difficulty of operating under an ever changing set of impossible standards and priorities. -Feedback can feel very contradictory. Staff may receive positive reinforcement only to face unexpected reversals soon after. -Work life balance is severely limited due to expectations that staff remain constantly available and hyper flexible regardless of their role or level. -Compensation tends to be minimized whenever possible.
