Pros

I worked at Paddywagon for a year, which was way longer than I should have. I stayed because there were some nice perks (free tours and accommodation) and because I liked my coworkers, but the company was disorganized and the management downright abusive.

Cons

I worked in the retail end of Paddywagon, in a shop with no heating and no running water. In the winter, we had to wear gloves to make change. If the boss saw us wearing a coat or a sweater, he would threaten to fire us. If we spent too much time standing behind the till (where the small space heater was), he would threaten to fire us. If we explained that we were cold, he said it was because we were lazy and that we should be walking around on the sales floor. There was no contract and no paid sick days. Taking time off for health reasons was actively discouraged. Nepotism and sexual harassment were both to be expected. In general, male employees tended to advance from working in the shop to guiding tours, if they wanted to. Female employees never did. Literally never. There was not one single female tour guide working for Paddywagon. Female employees, including myself, were expected to make the boss's coffee, collect his drycleaning, research activities for his kids, lie to his wife about his whereabouts, and (this happened to me) to take 150 euros from the till and bring it to him in the city so he could go out drinking. As others have mentioned, I'm pretty sure there was tax evasion going on, along with some discriminatory hiring, but even putting that aside, the things I experienced personally should be proof enough that this company has some serious management problems.

Pros

The backpackers are lovely to work with.

Cons

The owner is a nasty person. He bullies and walks all over people. Sexist too. This is the leader of the company and he sets the tone for how the rest of the management treat others.

Pros

Chance for growth within your expertise.

Cons

• need to keep track of tacho card, as they say it’s all in a system and you’ll be contacted if problem. Not truthful • delay with payment while being told the amount is already paid. Not truthful. • long days as the accommodation is booked last minute so sometimes have to accommodate everyone at loads of different locations.
