Pros

The one big pro is that I met some amazing co-workers and developed some friendships that I hope will last a long time. There are some very nice, hard-working people in the trenches there.

Cons

I worked at Packaging Specialties for about two years. If want your manager to micromanage every single thing do, and to stand over you all day like a king penguin guarding its egg then this is the place for you! We had to copy our manager on every email and we were called (even though we worked within steps of one another!) about every 10 minutes until jobs were completely done. It seems to earn adult status you had to be born prior to the Reagan administration. If you're a millennial and you sign up there, be ready for a stroll down elementary school memory-lane. Lunch will feel the same (minus the juice boxes) and breaks will seem like recess. For bathroom breaks make sure you build in enough time to tell your manager where you're going. If you're a woman under a certain age the dress code seems to be different than if you're over that age. There were occasions where I was asked why I was dressed "so sexy" by men in the office (wearing pretty straight forward work clothes). The company doesn't support internal promotions or transfers. Career growth there is a challenge as your manager is allowed to block you from even applying for internally-posted jobs. You could be in the same role for awhile.

Packaging Specialties Response
3y
Thank you for your feedback, and I’m sorry had a negative experience at Packaging Specialties. I acquired Packaging Specialties from the previous ownership team in August 2022 and was born during the George H.W. Bush administration for what it’s worth. I’m a firm believer that great ideas can come from any generation, and that it’s my job to empower the team to get the best out of each other regardless of age. I can’t speak to behavior prior to August of 2022, but I have a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. I appreciate you sharing your experience because it is helping me to understand the cultural issues that need to be addressed at Packaging Specialties. I wasn’t aware of any sexual harassment issues until now, and I will remain laser-focused on creating a safe and equitable work environment.

Pros

Learn firsthand insight into how easily integrity can be sacrificed when leadership prioritizes numbers over people. The experience is useful only if your takeaway is recognizing red flags to avoid in your next role.

Cons

Lack of integrity is not occasional- it’s baked into daily operations. Loyal customers and employees are taken for granted. Long standing relationships are exploited rather than respected. Integrity is labeled as a core value but only when it sounds good, abandoned when it costs anything.Long term customers are routinely charged more, given fewer concessions and expected to accept unfavorable pricing simply because they have an established relationship. Customers who built the business are penalized for staying while new customers are rewarded with better pricing, free freight, attention and flexibility.
