Pros

The one and ONLY thing they have going for them...health insurance.

Cons

There are so many cons, I honestly do not know where to begin. I worked here for over a year and a half and it was the most miserable year and a half of my life. Most of the people that work in the office have been there since it opened or pretty close to that. They are mostly middle aged or over and are completely miserable, unfriendly and frankly, unapproachable. I have honestly never in my life seen or heard of a more unsatisfactory working environment. The owner's first and only concern is the bottom line. He also works in the office and is pretty involved in the goings on but only speaks with the higher ups. They haven't had ANY pay increases in 13 years because of the "declining economy" HOWEVER, just 2 years ago they started over a million dollars in office and warehouse renovations. How do you explain that? Just despicable. He is one cheap S.O.B. The conditions of the warehouse, which I frequently had to work in, are deplorable. If they were ever inspected by OSHA, they would be shut down in a heartbeat. I had to work amongst mountains of filthy, dust-caked boxes which I had to constantly sift through and attempt to organize - all in office clothes. The air quality is so poor and dust-filled that if you blew your nose, you'd see black matter on the tissue. I actually had to see a doctor due to a newly developed dust allergy...can't imagine why. There was one time when part of the ceiling actually caved in due to a leak. They finally had someone come and take part of the soaked ceiling out and shortly thereafter, I realized they had just placed it nearby. To this day they STILL have not cleaned it. It recently began leaking again! So we put a trash can underneath it. The trashcan was still there the day I finally quit. I am not done - Something else I found infuriating; no employee is allowed to take any time off within the months of October through December (including the day after Thanksgiving). The company is apparently busiest then, and god forbid they lose any money. They are considered "black out" dates AS WELL as any day before and after a holiday. If you decide to call out sick during these black out dates, you are written up and not paid for the day. They do not offer sick days (!). Employees are treated like absolute scum. And on top of all of this, the owner expects his employees to worship him because of an "incredible health care package". Yes - the health care is decent, but that does not even COME CLOSE to outweighing the negatives.

Packaging Specialties Response
3y
Thank you for your feedback, and I’m sorry you had such a negative experience at Packaging Specialties. I acquired Packaging Specialties from the previous ownership team in August 2022. My number one priority is to ensure a physically and culturally safe work environment for all employees. We have started making positive changes and will make relentless forward progress until we have a work environment that we can be proud of. In the last month, we have hired a Warehouse Manager tasked with ensuring a safe and efficient warehouse environment, completed significant repairs to the roof, and initiated a review of vacation and sick leave policies.

Pros

Learn firsthand insight into how easily integrity can be sacrificed when leadership prioritizes numbers over people. The experience is useful only if your takeaway is recognizing red flags to avoid in your next role.

Cons

Lack of integrity is not occasional- it’s baked into daily operations. Loyal customers and employees are taken for granted. Long standing relationships are exploited rather than respected. Integrity is labeled as a core value but only when it sounds good, abandoned when it costs anything.Long term customers are routinely charged more, given fewer concessions and expected to accept unfavorable pricing simply because they have an established relationship. Customers who built the business are penalized for staying while new customers are rewarded with better pricing, free freight, attention and flexibility.
