Pros
You get engage with a wide spectrum of social services housed beneath the PRCC umbrella. The organization has a long history in the neighborhood. Senior management is a cadre of really important community organizers. The women working at the PRCC are the most devoted, visionary leaders and implementers. The folks working in specialist, coordinator, or assistant roles are really lovely, down-to-earth people who are a joy to work with. The organization provides much needed services and has a legacy of being the first in its neighborhood to do so.
Cons
The organization is spread incredibly thin. Its support for staff is dismal. Management is, broadly speaking, aggressive and incompetent in terms of leadership. There is a strong expectation that you will work for the sake of the mission and your politics without being compensated properly. People are still using paper as the main form of record keeping; databases and information technology, as well as any other mainstay of modern organizational management, are absent here. It feels as though that in this organization's decades of "leadership," they have refused to grow and adapt to the needs of their community and employees, and prefer to lean on the laurels of their legacy.
