Pros

A lot of great people work here that want to do the right thing, although they are limited by the organization. Pretty good pay and benefits for the location. Flexible remote work Stable industry with guaranteed revenue stream

Cons

If you are an IT professional that wants to always be satisfied with your work and always find a way to do things better and improve, an IT position at PPL will probably not be right for you. If you can look past constant frustrations, doing things that don't make sense, and not being listened to - and compartmentalize that to your 9 to 5, you can probably have an OK career here. There's also a chance you can land in a cushy role\group aligned with one of the leaders' pet projects that avoids these problems, but it's a roll of the dice. If you are in a role that gets stuck with 24/7 support responsibilities, you can expect to be called constantly at all hours, and any of your attempts to drive real root cause fixes will hit dead end after dead end. The organization is completely top-down and hierarchical, and you will find yourself working on things that make no sense simply because they are dictated by someone that can't be bothered to do due diligence and listen to their experts. Any attempts you make to sell your case for high-value work will be ignored - but not after you are gaslit into thinking someone is listening. After being ignored for years, you'll realize no one cares. The organization is completely fragmented and silo'ed, where it's survival mode for every manager and group. It doesn't take long for a manager to realize that putting up defenses and protecting your people is more prudent than even trying to work together with other teams. It's not uncommon for projects to take years, not be properly staffed, and end up causing more problems than they set out to solve. Languishing technologies will be left to rot and have the poor souls that support them stuck scrambling day after day to keep them running while shoehorning them into the flavor of the month mandates that come from the top down. It's a shame because this was once a pretty good place to work. Not without frustrations, but people tried to do their best and work together in a very conservative and slow moving industry. Unfortunately, that changed and doesn't seem to be reverting any time soon. Everyone I know that has left is way happier, that should say something.
