Pros

The management team wants you to succeed and will do everything in their power to make it happen. Work is consistent and diversified. Benefits, such as healthcare and retirement, are great compared to other companies in the sector. Limitless opportunities for advancement. Company cares about the health and safety of their employees and is currently revamping their EHS processes to make them easier to use and comply with. Head safety officer still conducts field visits to truly understand what obstacles are faced in the field. Multiple employee engagement opportunities to make sure that employees feel like they belong to a bigger family such a two company meetups per year and many smaller events locally. CEO is engaged and actively vocal about the needs of their employees. Depending on the manager, schedule is flexible. Company offers at office/hybrid/fully remote options with home office stipend. Power truly believes in investing in local communities and provides 8-hours of paid volunteer time to be used at the discretion of the employee. Review periods occur two times a year, one in July for annual salary adjustments and one in November/December for bonus review. If you’re proactive, driven, curious, and determined, PMs will notice and reward accordingly. PTO is typically approved without hesitation if given ample advance warning.

Cons

In Texas, majority of wetland work is focused in the Atlantic Gulf Coastal Plains near Houston and surrounding areas - as a delineator this region is typically problematic and difficult to work in during the spring/summer months. Would like to have more diverse fieldwork. PMs cater to on the whim demands of clients which causes for stressful turnaround times, bottlenecks, and work overload. Deliverables are client dependent, minimum cohesiveness between reports from different clients. Which causes confusion of what is expected as the PM might have a favorite report that is not necessarily the most recent. Standardization of expectations are lacking. Work load, while typically consistent, usually wanes on the heavy side, making work-life balance difficult. PTO is limited with the standard 2 weeks for vacation/1 week for sick leave. Frustrating as other companies in the sector tend to have more lucrative PTO packages. Can be easily pigeon holed if not vocal about needs.

Pros

Was a genuinely great place to work. Great people and great culture. It was worth the slightly-lower-than-average pay because work life balance and benefits were great. I enjoyed going to work every day.

Cons

Poor financial decisions from upper management regarding the shareholder program led to the company's demise. Upper management sold out to WSP. Management made millions while long time employees got zilch. As someone else had mentioned, retention bonuses were unfairly distributed. Most people didn't get any retention bonus even if they had been long time employees of the company. It really felt like everyone who wasn't upper management got stabbed in the back. They got their payout then dumped the company. Still stings to this day.
