Pros
As a smaller publisher competing with some bigger organisations PLOS offers staff a chance to get involved in different initiatives and opportunities to learn a lot, especially in the Editorial department.
Cons
Changes in management around just before 2020 specifically recruiting staff from largely subscription based publishers really changed the ethos at PLOS and led to a mass exodus of staff who believed in the original mission and vision of the organisation.
