Pros

Work/life balance Down-to-earth middle management

Cons

Pay below market (way below) Rapid and confusing changes New head of accounting department A few months ago the new head of the accounting department began shifting the company culture into a direction that is a degeneration of how modern workplace culture should be. Three years ago this company culture was very modern, a true pleasure to be a part of it! This new accounting head brought with them the old crusty feeling of a stuffy corporate office job that was not there beforehand. The vibe went from bright and cheery to grey and oppressive. About 50% of the long term accounting employees have left since this person started forcing us to attend daily point last meetings so they can hear themselves talk and have some semblance of importance. It went from more “hands off” to “hands all over”. It’s really sad to see. And the icing on the cake that is causing everyone to quit is the fact that there are no raises and the pay is well below market for every position.

Pros

PLACE is full of kind, driven, hardworking, and growth-minded people. Ideas are shared freely, collaboration is a daily habit, and I can't think of a single person who isn't always happy to help at a moment's notice. No matter where they fall in the organizational structure, I can feel comfortable reaching out to anyone and know that I'll be met with a kind and friendly response. While all startups offer daily learning opportunities simply by nature of being startups, what makes PLACE unique is the purposeful striving for learning, teaching, and growing, both personally and professionally. I don't just learn new information or processes - I learn new ways of thinking, doing, and being that no other workplace has ever taught me, which is one of my favorite things about this company and what keeps me engaged and excited.

Cons

Tools and processes are often pushed out with little to no notice to employees, so we're left scrambling to learn and operationalize while at the same time our partners are getting excited and wanting us to teach them about it. The interviewing and hiring process takes weeks. I appreciate the in-depth screening that we do, and it seems to have a high success rate of finding the right fit, but the lengthy process can be a turnoff to candidates. Bottlenecks occur regularly - even something like a promotion or pay raise has to be approved at the very top, which can take a very long time. Leaders are busy and seem to be spread very thin.
