Pros

Salary and Benefits, owners are amazing people.

Cons

Management has serious issues as they're very unseasoned and only have military experience. Some members talk a very good talk which has given them the ability to catch the owners ear, the effects of this are catastrophic as its effecting the owners ability to make good judgment as hes being manipulated (don't get me wrong, the owner/co-owner are amazing individuals). Unfortunately the work/life balance is no-longer a feasible balance if you have a family, the organization is not forcing you to work incessant hours, its just there are not enough resources or hours in a day to get done what needs to be done as 14% of the staff was let go, our ultimate goal as an organization is to keep this place a-float. Job Security is atrocious... The organization is very top heavy as a good 1/3 of the staff is either a VP, president of something or manager and being paid almost 200k when the market value is maybe 120k for their little experience, as a result this has caused massive debt and has caused the company to lay off over 9 members. Advancement does not exist... Being that this is a small company, management that's in place was hired in as management, is being compensated well above the market value ~ no one will leave! There is absolutely no room to advance, you will be a developer there to execute the visions of the clients and owners or an engineer to maintain those visions. Job culture can be questionable but is not very different than anywhere else. There is a circle of trust in place and if you're not within that inner circle you hear an immense amount of gossip. Nature of the office! Unfortunately due to the second RIF within the last 13 months the development team has absolutely no guidance or management structure in place. The teams are asked to execute a task but that vision will change daily resulting in zero innovation. Currently the team only has enough resources to resolve discrepancies within the product line, resulting in little time to be innovative and compete within the market space which is depressing as the company use to be very competitive.

Pros

I worked at Pixia full-time for about 7.5 years. I left only because I had an offer I could not refuse and felt it was a great opportunity for me. That being said, if things go south with this opportunity, I would have no problems returning to Pixia if they had an opening. The best part about Pixia is the people and the culture. The people at Pixia are very professional, outgoing, helpful and friendly. I enjoyed working with these people very much. In addition, the people at Pixia are very smart. I learned something new every day and never felt like I could not ask questions or offer my assistance and knowledge when needed. The environment at Pixia provides challenges to those who are interested and willing to step up and accept a challenge. The software developed at Pixia is fairly complex and the environment where the software is deployed presents many problems. Often times it is up to the development and engineering teams to solve problems outside of the box. This provides developers and engineers the freedom to explore new technologies and techniques from the community and of their own.

Cons

Pixia has had some struggles getting a software development process working to maximum effect for a number of reasons that are fairly typical, in my opinion and experience, of smaller companies. As a result, release cycles can sometimes be tight and a little chaotic.
