Pros
I absolutely love my job and this organization. There isn’t anywhere else I would rather be. I love the work, my coworkers and everyone in my own department. Some days are busier than others but when I need a break from sitting in front of a computer crunching numbers all day, I volunteer to spend a day in the field with our amazing field workers helping dogs and other local animals first hand. I love the flexibility of being able to get out of the office once in a while for a change of pace and it’s always good to be reminded why we are here. My true loves are excel spreadsheets and my sweet dog that comes to work with me every day. One of my favorite benefits because spending time with her (even though all she mostly does is sleep all day) is so important to me.
In addition to loving my job, I am happy with our benefits and especially our time off. Between vacation hours, sick hours, holidays, birthday time off, and bonus holiday time, I am satisfied with my work/life balance. Some departments have less flexibility than mine when it comes to hours worked, it’s the nature of the positions, and I consider myself and my department very lucky. My organization doesn’t skimp on giving us paid time off.
It’s great to walk through the building and know that I am working with like-minded people who share the same core beliefs and to see the amazing animal rights accomplishments happening around me each and every day.
Cons
You might make more money at a for profit company but your soul will die a little every day.
