Outback Steakhouse

Is this your company?

Sort of pays the bills, but not a viable career option if you can find anything else - Server, Bartender Outback Steakhouse Employee Review

Pros

Good national advertising, name recognition, regular customers, only open at night so it's good for college students or those using it as a second job, quality food for the most part

Cons

Short shifts so it's almost impossible to average enough hours to actually get the above average (for the restaurant industry) benefits and paid vacation as a FOH employee. Management is increasingly concerned with only the bottom line and not the employee. "No Rules" approach forces you to bend over backwards for the customer, no matter how ridiculous and unreasonable their demands. Recent EEOC court case had led to a lack of opportunity for any kind of advancement unless you are a minority. Constant changes in policy do nothing but make our job more difficult and unpleasant.

Pros

The store level can be a really rewarding experience, I come to work and genuinely enjoy my job and coworkers.

Cons

Hovering corporate can be a headache. You don't have a say on which location you are sent to after training just a consideration of your location and commute. The bonus system is lacking with metrics that are hard to obtain and only quarterly. Raises are hardly cost of living wages and seniority isnt rewarded as new managers typically come in making as much if not more than senior managers.
