Pros

Options Away has a solid business idea and because the management team is excellent at salesmanship they have managed to attract a decent amount of industry interest.

Cons

Management's qualifications for running a business begin and end with their ability to sell the idea of a product. Their complete lack of any technical knowledge combined with a deep mistrust of the majority of their employees leads them to dismiss the recommendations of the people they hire. They were almost aggressively open with how little they valued their workers. To quote the CMO and co-founder of the company, who doesn't whisper as quietly as she thinks she does, "once we have enough money, everyone is replaceable". To top it all off, they insisted that we should have been falling all over ourselves with gratitude for the mid to low salaries they paid along with the watered down equity they offered, as if these could make up for the negative atmosphere they created.

Options Away Response

I am the co-founder referred to in this review. I most certainly value all team members, many who have been with Options Away since conception and continue thrive in our happy and productive environment. That statement is reported somewhat out of context, and it was definitely not meant to be a whisper. Once we were funded we were better able to realign our team with our core company values, one of which is that no matter how smart a person is, if they detract from our passionate and positive work culture, they are not welcome.

Pros

The product is unique yet simple, and the company is all but guaranteed to be a success. It's great work environment, which gives it's developers a lot of autonomy to approach each complex project as you see fit and with plenty of co-developer support. As a former attorney, who used to work in cut-throat law firms, the camaraderie of the dev team is something rare. It's only place I've worked that gives you requirements on Monday, you develop on Tuesday, it's QA'd on Wednesday, deployed on Thursday and see users using it on Friday. Work here if: 1) You like being challenged 2) You like working at a fast pace 3) You aren't afraid of asking questions 4) You aren't afraid of making mistakes (but fixing them quickly) 4) You think age and years-of-experience are just a number, not defaults to being "right" 5) You want to see your team/project succeed more than yourself

Cons

Don't work here if: 1) You are afraid of change 2) You don't like asking questions 3) You need strict project guidelines to start a project 4) You don't like to learn new things and rather fall back on what you are comfortable on 5) You aren't smart enough to realize one disgruntled former-employee, made 3 GlassDoor accounts so he could right 3 bad reviews.
