Pros
As my review title indicates, I'm not a member of the company's exec team. I'm not being asked to leave this review in any way. I (weirdly) have to say this because that’s what some of these reviews might have you believe. However, I don’t want to mislead you here. I am, in fact, being compelled to write this review – but not because someone above me is forcing me to write this or the future of Opcity is precariously depending on whether we have 4.25 stars vs 3.75 – no. Instead, I’m compelled by a responsibility to people thinking of working here; if I was a prospective employee and I looked at these reviews, I'd think - woah, this company is crazy -- the only positive reviews are fake and all the negative reviews are intense! So let me try to set the record straight. I've worked here since July of 17, and I really, truly, honestly (you'll just have to trust me here since this is anonymous) love working here. It’s filled with people who are incredibly skilled at what they do – better than any other place I’ve personally worked – who genuinely want to make Opcity a great company. Part of that pursuit is really difficult. We obviously have a large (and increasingly larger) call center. So prospective employee / random glass-door-passer-by, you should at least think the following “if people typically only leave bad reviews when they’re upset, and Opcity hires a lot of people because they have a large call center, then it’s possible Opcity could have bad reviews and still be a great company.” But I don’t want to discount my fellow reviewers here – Opcity is still figuring things out (heck – *all* companies are figuring things out) and pursuing the goals Opcity is pursuing is definitely very difficult. (of which, I’ll touch in my “cons” section). So the pros of working here? A company that has a great business model, a company that is filled with talent top to bottom, great benefits (e.g. a free lunch that doesn’t make you take a nap immediately after due to being unhealthy / cheap), a company that possesses optimism and care throughout, etc. etc. So again, I assure you this: I’m not a recruiter; I’m not an executive; I’m not a member of some coordinated strategy. Instead, I’m merely trying to uncover the truth to you, the prospective employee – so you can come and see for yourself the company for which I truly, honestly, really love working.
Cons
One of the downsides of working with competitive, skilled people? You have to push yourself harder and more often than you might ever have. I don't say that in as a pejorative to my fellow anonymous reviewers here, because it really is hard to do, and furthermore, there are many companies where I'm sure there are positive cultures AND you aren't required to push yourselves as much. Unfortunately, the negative effects compound here when your effort is directly tied to your earnings. So, yes, that can definitely be tough. However, from what it seems like (just look at comments on reviews for evidence), Opcity definitely wants a company where they can provide large rewards to those who work really hard (monetary and otherwise), but I know they also don't a company where the workforce is bled dry and churns out. (After all, who would want that since any gains you'd have in production would be offset in training / recruiting costs / etc.) So yes, they're definitely still figuring that out. Another thing they're still figuring out is transparency / communication. I know from their communication, they do value these things, but they're still experimenting the ideal vessel for them (e.g. monthly emails vs monthly town halls). So if / when you work here, know that you can definitely get the transparency that makes everyone feel good and included - you just may need to be more proactive than one might think.
