Pros

Bright, built fairly recently (three years ago) and stocks great bargains. Handy shop within the community that the locals have taken to heart. As many hours as you can manage if you wish to increase your income, but expect phone calls at the last moment, whilst on holidays and days off as they are always short staffed.

Cons

Silly busy shop that is as far from a convenience store as Tesco (the owner of one stop) is a health food shop. It is effectively a small supermarket and it's takings suggest this also. However, the upper Manager doggedly insist that it is staffed with the same level as other convenience stores. On a weekend, you are so busy that you are unable to adequately replenish shelves as well as complete all the other responsibilities of a shift Manager and Assistant. You are constantly attempting to get things done knowing that you will be held responsible if you are unable to complete the tasks to the Manager's satisfaction. I was often forced to tell customers that we were out of stock of items as I had no time to go into the Warehouse and check stock levels. Theft seems to be an issue with the scant staff being blamed for not being suitably vigilant, which is certainly not the case. The moral of the staff is always low and the Manager's ability to hire good staff is questionable. People begin with all good intentions only to become disillusioned and leave. Staff mean very little to this organisation, they are only concerned with productivity and financial output, which at best is sad and at worse, barely legal. Personal issues must never impact on the working of the store and care/understanding is totally overlooked. As another poster commented, the attitude is draconian at best and all those in charge are encouraged to deal with other staff in the same manner. I was sad to leave this store as I felt it would be better if Tesco finally accepted it was a supermarket and ran it as a Tesco express for example, matters would improve for all. But in the end, I did so to shield my own mental health as did my predecessor.
