One Retail Group Response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team at One Retail Group, I am sorry to read that you feel negatively about working with us. I’d like to respond to each of your points in turn, as we value employee feedback a lot. Last year we introduced new benefits, informed by an employee survey completed at the end of 2021. We currently offer healthcare (inclusive of dental and mental health support), an additional day off to celebrate your birthday, increased pension contributions, regular team socials, office perks such as weekly fruit and bagels and a cycle to work scheme, and we’ll continue to review these. While we are a growing team and trying to achieve a lot, we’re conscious that our team need to prioritise their wellbeing and encourage them to do so. It’s good to see that you don’t find your work too stressful as a result! We invested in management training for our team leads and our aspiring leaders to help them develop as people managers for their teams. We’ve also recently changed the structure of our management team to better support us. I’d like to assure you that all of our employees have the utmost respect of our Management and Senior Leadership Team; without our employees we wouldn’t be where we are today. I note that you are a current employee and would like to encourage you to speak with me so that I can discuss your experience further and help improve it.

Pros

I’ve been here for a number of years now in product development, and while it’s not always been easy, it’s definitely been worth it. It’s a demanding place with high expectations, fast pace, and very little hand-holding, however, if you’re someone who likes autonomy and can get things done, it’s an environment where you’ll definitely be trusted and can thrive. Hard work definitely gets noticed here and I’ve been given real responsibility and have grown a lot, both professionally and personally. But, I’ve also witnessed people struggle when they’re not aligned with the culture. If you need structure or constant guidance, this probably isn’t the right place. For me, it’s a 5 star experience because it matches how I have always liked to work. I’d recommend it to people who are genuinely self-driven and comfortable being challenged.

Cons

A sink or swim mentality which works for me but others may find a struggle if they are used to having their hand held.

Pros

Weekly fruits. 2 days of working from home.

Cons

There’s so much favouritism—people aren’t treated as valued team members at all. It’s obviously not a fair place to work. You’ll see a lot of fake behaviours: people act warm and polite in front of others, then turn around and gossip hard behind their backs. The company seems to be trying to build processes, but in reality, there’s no real structure or transparency. Line managers don’t know how to lead, and senior managers don’t know how to manage the managers either. It’s chaos. As for emotional stability—forget it. From middle to senior levels, it’s full of people who can’t handle pressure or control their emotions. Last year, the CEO talked about various company visions, but none of them were about people or culture. It’s all about profit, being ‘agile,’ working harder, and cutting costs. Since my first month, I heard about people leaving every single month. Someone was always quitting or being pushed out. The turnover rate is ridiculously high. If you’re looking for a place with stability, fairness, or respectful leadership—this isn’t it.
