Pros

Very knowledgeable and friendly scientists are working in OC. A good place to learn in the beginning of career. Good instrument ( LCMS, NMR, HPLC, SFC, except fume hoods are small and labs are very compact.

Cons

Not easy to grow within company. Management has changed but previous management was very toxic. The least important aspect for management was it's employees. They hire you as senior with PhD to not give you promotion in the next 10 years.

Pros

One of the few place you can still do organic chemistry and get experience in R&D. Lot of very skilled and friendly colleagues. You do not get to much pressure. If your career expectation are not high you may get some time to do your personnals projects.

Cons

Very low attention to the physical environnement: cold in winter, hot in summer, lab are smelly and poorly ventilated. Ventillation is also loud, lab space is very small and crowded. Theirs an obsession to save money. If you wear to many protective gloves, want paper rool to clean your bench or want to do any small expenses you end up with long and disengaging negotiation with the management. Equipment are old and poorly maintain so they are down very often and it take month to get them working. Management make you feel that your lucky to have a job and do not promote personal initiative and developement.

Pros

You need a job and want to keep your feet wet in the lab, that's your place. They will pay you an o.k. salary for the area. If you want to stay away from big cities that's pretty much the only place that will offer you this kind life. The company seems to be doing well which is a good indication that the jobs are safe. Possibility to do medchem or process. Team is generally fun to work with.

Cons

The labs are smelly, Heating is kept at a minimum in the winter, no air conditioning in the summer in the labs. (temperature is often around 30 celcius. with a humidity that goes up to 80% during some summer days.) very little bench space, equipment is always broken. People are expected to keep their heads down and get their work done. Not an environment that fosters collaboration or innovation.
