Pros

Great compensation and yearly bonuses. Friendly atmosphere with brilliant employees. Fun holiday events to keep up morale. Excellent communication and cooperation amongst teams at company's satellites (Cyvex/NUTrition, Inconn, Wisconsin Specialty Protein). Stability - this company has been around for over a century and has been growing rapidly over the last decade into a diverse corporation compared to the fishing company it started out as.

Cons

Managment runs the research satellites like businesses rather than scientific labs. Profitability and time from bench to market is more important than exploring alternative formulations and methods to ensure the healthiest and most effective product goes to market. Safety is a low priority. One facility was originally drafted to have power supplies in the center of the pilot lab, wires were run, but outlets and breakers were never installed. Lab users had extension cords running all across the floor as a result of unfinished construction. Chemical cabinet ventilation system was never installed and explosively reactive chemicals were stored on the same shelf in the same cabinet. Nitric and sulfuric acids right next to toluene, and strong oxidizers next to fuels such as kerosene.

Pros

Aren’t many besides the convenience. Pay is decent for the area, but not for the amount of time you’re gone away from your family and the amount of times you’ll just be getting trash little checks for bad weather or low catch. Being charged a grub bill at an offshore company still is absurd. They have men who are retirement age doing jobs that requires good vision and hearing. It’s really a hazard. Young talent gets wasted for years because they can’t just tell the 68 year old guy it’s time to go home for good. They may not need to be force retired, but should at least be removed from the dangers of the purse boats after a certain age. They can’t climb or move effectively and it’s dangerous.

Cons

-gone for days at a time (even if no fish are spotted) -management is clueless because they get to go home at the end of every day -workers are in a union, but the union heads are corrupted to the point of putting little resistance against the company forcing you to work holidays and leave the dock early while they sit at home with their families. -if you have kids and a wife at home, you may end up with neither -a man was nearly murdered in the parking lot when a car ran him over. Instead of allowing us time to digest what we had seen, they instead began calling asking when were we boarding the boat to go to work. You are truly disposable here. -I’m confident being white makes my hard time significantly more bearable than my coworkers.
