Pros
You work with some very intelligent individuals. Unfortunately, their opinion (as is yours) is completely worthless to upper management.
Cons
Are you a sociopath? Do you have no problem lying to desperate college students to extract free labor? Are you willing to suck CEO Evan Burn's ego to be thrown the crumbs that you were promised in your interview? Do you love working 60+ hours a week for no extra compensation? Do you not have any financial responsibilities, so consistently late paychecks are a no-big? Do you hate your friends and loved ones and want 0 work-life balance? If you answered "yes" to these questions, congratulations! You're perfect for The Odyssey Online. There is so much I can say about this company, but nothing can be said that already hasn't in other reviews. Instead, I'll speak directly to the students considering writing for this trash fire: Run. Do not "apply" for this internship. There is absolutely nothing "exclusive" about posting on this site; managing editors are directly told that their paycheck depends on accepting everyone, even if that person is borderline illiterate. The company is using you. You are being played. Other weird and creepy things that you'll encounter at The Odyssey include- -Your "managing editor" pushing a ton of extra work on you over the weekends -Being forced to use your personal cell phone to communicate with the managing editor (who you don't know) -Being forced to add your managing editor on your personal Facebook account (ew) -Being forced into managing a group chat with all your writers to egg them into working for free, which is like herding cats. You will gain absolutely nothing from this website. The site has a laughable reputation among real journalism outlets, so if you're hoping to get a job at a big boy/girl company, you'd be better off not listing this company on your resume. Starting your own Wordpress blog is WORLDS more impressive than crapping out content for this dumpster.
