Pros

Family run and operated ... just like the Mafia! haha By that I mean, if you are not related by blood or marriage to the owners of the company, you are absolutely without question a 2nd or 3rd level employee. You will NEVER rise into upper management, which is only for family members. NuWave tries to position itself as hip, young, tech savvy, and a cool place to work. Wrong! There is little positive to say about this company.

Cons

Most staff and programmers are very underpaid, with promises for raises that never materialize. Always looking for shortcuts to save money and increase revenue: * shady marketing deals for other companies such as Artemis Solutions in East Lansing. They combine office space and use inappropriate accounting tricks to make things look rosy and bright ... until salary, benefits, profit sharing and other employee compensation issues arise, and suddenly they are cash poor and struggling. * They use old-school, high pressure sales techniques from the 1950s, 60s, 70's and 80's to get customers to buy from them. * Their telephone systems are super expensive, with overpriced maintenance agreements, and NuWave generally has slow response times for service. Management is highly arrogant and has an innately suspicious nature, which shows up at various times and is quite offensive in their off-hand comments. The paranoid nature of management (which emerges under stress) may be due to their own dubious, unethical work standards that they admitted engaging in at their previous telecom jobs -- a place where the family were employed for many years, before branching out into their own company ... they jump-started their own telecom sales company by poaching (unethically taking) as many customers as possible from the company that had employed them for many, many years.

NuWave Technology Partners Response

I thought Glassdoor.com was above allowing bogus posts like the one below written by someone who hides behind the ability to make inflammatory and libelous comments anonymously. On 8/3/2015 I informed Glassdoor.com that for numerous reasons (which I outline below) it is obvious that this is not a person who truly worked at NuWave and instead is someone attempting to tarnish the reputation of our company for some unknown reason. Below I am responding with point by point responses. • NuWave has never had an employee with a ‘project manager’ title. The role of overseeing projects has been filled by individual with primary responsibilities of technical lead, training lead, etc… • NuWave is located in Lansing. Not East Lansing • Accusation of disrespect with zero substance and no examples!” It is interesting that all other reviews on Glassdoor praise the organization and leadership. • There are no family members who work at NuWave other than the three owners (Rick Paalman, Kyle Paalman and Chad Paalman) who started the company in 2005. • The entire management team is comprised of individuals who are not related to the owners. NuWave is proud to have such strong leaders who have poured their blood, sweat and tears into building this organization over the past 10 years and much of the leadership have grown with the organization. The average tenure of the leadership team is 8+ years! • NuWave has never had a programmer on staff. Software development is outsourced to companies that NuWave has established strategic partnerships with. • NuWave has deliberately spent money conservatively. The original business plan and the philosophy still today of ownership is to avoid spending money foolishly so that the company can be financially healthy (which it is and has been for 10+ years) and pay at or above market salaries in order to attract and retain the best and brightest individuals in the industry. • NuWave and Artemis do not share office space. Artemis is based in East Lansing and NuWave is headquartered out of Kalamazoo, with offices in Lansing and Grand Rapids. • NuWave and Artemis are separate companies, with no co-ownership. The owners of the two companies are friends and have long seen the advantage of partnering on projects that require the skillsets of both organizations. • The accusation that NuWave is using accounting tricks is simply a lie! The opportunity for this does not even exist as NuWave and Artemis run completely separate financials, different CPA firms, and different legal representation. • NuWave has a team of account managers who work with their clients as consultants. The products and services that NuWave recommends to its clients are from the leading vendors in the industry such as Cisco, Microsoft, Dell and others. High pressure sales and/or recommending products or services to clients that are not needed is strictly prohibited at NuWave and would be grounds for termination. Furthermore, almost every recommendation made to a client is the result of a collaborative effort of the client’s trusted support team comprised of their lead engineer, account manager and an owner or principal consultant. Quotes simply do not go out the door without significant oversight. • To make accusations of unethical work standards without examples is simply preposterous! • When the 3 owners left to start NuWave in 2005, they went out of their way to NOT poach the clients of their previous employer. In fact, a deliberate plan was put in place at the very beginning of growing the company through acquisition of new clients and other technology companies. • No “self-praise or hype” needed. NuWave is proud to have an awesome team that takes such great care of our clients that our clients continuously offer to make video testimonials about our service! You can check some of these out on our website. • While it is true that NuWave treats team members as family, other than the 3 owners, no other family members are employed at NuWave!

Pros

I have been working with NuWave for the past two years and it is the absolute best place I have ever worked. I support the CEO, Chad and he is the best! He is so transparent, kind and knowledgeable. He empowers me and all his employees to be the best that they can be and forgives when mistakes are made. He is human. He treats all his employees with respect and he is fair. I look forward to supporting him for many more years.

Cons
